THIS PARTICULAR KNIFE (BOKER APPLEGATE-FAIRBAIRN) COMES WITH SHARP EDGES ON THE GUARD WHEN NEW. WITH USE, THE SHARP EDGES WILL SMOOTH OUT, SINCE IT IS A SOFT BRASS METAL. THE SHARP EDGES WILL CAUSE THE KNIFE TO "CATCH/GRAB/CUT" INTO THE KYDEX MAKING INSERTING OR DEPLOYMENT A LITTLE ROUGH OR DIFFICULT. TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE, USE A LEATHER STROP WITH COMPOUND TO DULL/DEBUR/REMOVE THE SHARP EDGES. OR YOU CAN USE A FINE EMORY POLISHING CLOTH. THIS WILL NOT CHANGE OR DAMAGE THE KNIFE, IT SIMPLY REMOVES THE SHARPNESS THAT CUTS INTO THE KYDEX. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE AN OLDER/USED KNIFE WITH THE GUARD WITH ITS EDGES ALREADY DULLED FROM USE, YOU CAN SKIP THIS PREP. THE FACTORY SHEATH IS MADE OF A VERY FLIMSY WEAK .060 KYDEX WITH VERY WEAK RETENTION, YOU WILL EVEN NOTICE KYDEX SHAVINGS FROM THE SHARP EDGED GUARD REMOVING MATERIAL AS YOU INSERT AND DEPLOY! THE .093 KYDEX I USE IS FIRM AND THE RETENTION WILL ALSO BE A MUCH BETTER FEEL AND FUNCTION. SOME KNIVES WITH SHARP EDGES ON THE GUARD, NOT ONLY THE APPLEGATE, SUCH AS "STAMPED STEEL" GUARDS THAT ARE NOT POLISHED WILL HAVE THE SAME ISSUE, UNTIL YOU CORRECT THE ISSUE WITH A SIMPLE POLISH. 2 Week Lead Time to Make Sheath. These are Not "Ready Made". 2 weeks is the estimated time, could be shorter could be a couple days longer, it depends on my workload.  I TYPICALLY HAVE THESE DONE BETWEEN 1-2 WEEKS, BUT JUST BE AWARE IT CAN BE ROUGHLY 2 WEEKS IF I AM BUSY.
